Once the individual printing techniques that were to appear on the commemorative banknote were specified, further processing could take place. The engraver Martin Srb, a prominent personality of the STÁTNÍ TISKÁRNA CENIN, took on the difficult task of translating the individual parts of the artistic design into graphic form.
In the first stage, it is a faithful redrawing of the original into a feather (line) drawing on a larger scale. In doing so, it is important to preserve the artist's handwriting and, above all, to correctly capture and not change the expression of the face of the personality, in this case Václav Havel.
Close cooperation between the engraver and the designer was very important at this stage. Martin Srb transferred the drawings, which were later realised on the memorial plate using the intaglio printing technique, onto a steel plate in an already reduced scale, in order to subsequently engrave the drawing with a steel chisel and make a control print of the engraving. This is highly crafted handwork, which no machines can fully replace.
However, the graphic design of the commemorative certificate in the form of a banknote is not just a matter of handwork. The design of the other parts of the banknote, such as the protective elements, are already processed on the computer using a graphic design program, which requires a high level of expertise, knowledge of banknote design and aesthetic sensitivity. Michal Šindelář, one of the main designers at the STÁTNÍ TISKÁRNA CENIN has done this work to an excellent standard.
